General

Classification: Nonprofit
Type of Organization: Missions-Sending
Legal Name: Gethsemane International, Inc.
Established: 2003

Organization Description & Goals:

We invest completely in the lives of orphaned children, thoroughly equipping them for life. We believe that the most important need for these children is Jesus Christ - we desire to truly make disciples, one child at a time. We provide for each child's holistic needs by creating families with home-parents, siblings, chores, meals, education, and love. Our emphasis is on the development of spiritual depth in the heart of the child, as well as meeting the physical, educational and emotional needs. In contrast to many organizations, we don't want to only meet temporary needs but also meet the permanent needs of each child.

Organizational Principles

Purpose & Mission Statement:

Gethsemane International aims to "Raise Christian Men & Women Around the World" by rescuing orphans, largely as a result of HIV/AIDS, from extreme poverty or abuse and providing education opportunities and a home for each child. Our goal is to grow adults who are capable of breaking the cycle of poverty and are equipped to spread the truth of Jesus Christ in their communities. To achieve this goal, we have established a family environment - complete with loving parents, siblings, healthy lifestyles, medical care, and Christian education - modeled after the example of a Biblical family. Gethsemane currently owns and operates a Children's Home outside Nairobi, Kenya where once abandoned and AIDS orphaned children live. This mission started as a little school in the middle of the slums of Kenya and now has grown to provide a full home for these children. Gethsemane currently provides a loving home, fully staffed, that cares for the children's physical, emotional, and academic needs with a special focus on teaching and demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ.
