Website Definitions & Lingo

Fulfill UR Ministry has both created its own lingo and adopted much of the lingo from the world of missions, but because we were new to all of this at one point ourselves, we understand it may be difficult to follow along with some of the verbiage and trends discussed. In order to help with this, we have incorporated an interactive Lingo Tool throughout our site that allows you to read terms and definitions as you come across them. Below is a list of all terms on the site that are currently interactive. If you have any suggestions of things to add or edits you feel should be made, feel free to email us at submissions@fulfillurministry.org.

Fulfill UR Ministry Lingo

Term Definition
Active Viewer (AV) An individual who has created a personal account with Fulfill UR Ministry and has the ability to utilize FURM's interactive options with partner organizations.
Branch Ministry Branch Ministries are organizations that are not their own, separate entity. They either operate as a sub-ministry under an established 501(c)3 or from an official church. You can have as many Branch Ministries as you would like under one Parent Ministry Account and each will be given their own profile, searchable in our database, but connected back to your Parent Ministry.
Church Ministry A ministry that is an extension of a biblically based church, receiving accountability and their exempt status as an extension of the church.
Mission FURM believes there is one mission, the Great Commission, which is commanded to every believer of Christ to take the Gospel to every ethnic group in the world.
Missionary Many people/organizations have their own perspective on a “missionary” and what should/shouldn’t be known as such. Some believe a missionary is only someone who is serving in long term service in a culture different from their upbringing. Though FURM definitely believes this is a valuable and special type of missionary, we more firmly believe that ALL are called to fulfill the Great Commission (found in Matt 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20, and Acts 1) and be the hands of feet of the Gospel wherever and whatever their circumstances, constituting all believers as missionaries. So when FURM uses the word missionary, we are referring to all true believers in Christ who are fulfilling the calling to share the Gospel worldwide, whether that's local, national, or international.
Missions FURM believes the one Mission is completed by many missions. This is why you will see us refer to MSO as missions-sending and we will refer to all opportunities as missions opportunities.
Missions-Sending Organization (MSO) A Gospel-centered organization that sends missionaries to a specific field (local, statewide, national or global).
Parent Ministry A ministry that is a registered 501c3 organization that has ministries branching from it.

Unique Ministry Organization (UMO) A Gospel-centered organization that provides a specific service or set of services for the ultimate purpose of sharing Christ's love.
